Did you know that the ironworks’ workers often kept their own chickens and that egg and meat dishes were the highlights of the Easter dinner? During the winter, the hens took a break from laying eggs, but in late winter, during Lent, they started producing eggs again. Since eating meat products was forbidden during Lent, a large stock of eggs was saved for Easter. The egg was also a symbol of rebirth.
During Easter, the museum is open from April 18–20, between 11 AM and 4 PM. Hidden in the museum exhibition, you will find eggs and Easter-related objects with fascinating stories. Welcome!
